This weekend holds a lot of sentiment.
For multiple reasons.
Today, is GOOD Friday.
When you think about what our Saviour endured on this day, there doesn't seem to be much good about it.
Beaten. Flesh torn.
Jesus was crushed for our transgressions. Crucified for our sin.
He was forsaken, so forgiveness could be bestowed upon us.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
He paid the penalty, the cost.
The wages of our sin = DEATH.
He died, so we wouldn't have to.
He was nailed. Mocked. Hung on a cross.
His blood poured out.
All for OUR SIN...
Our anger. Our theft. Our lies. Our cruelty. Our gossip. Our selfishness. Our vanity. Our idols. Our impure thoughts. Our hatred. Our murder. Our gluttony. Our religion. Our deceit.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Today is Friday.... BUT SUNDAY IS COMING!!!
Death could not stop Him.
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:4,10-11)
In Christ we now have a newness of life. Not because of anything we have done... but because of what he has done on our behalf.
ALL was FOR LOVE...
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
It was love that pour out from His flesh that day.
It is love that covers a multitude of sin.
Oh, how He loves us!!!
My Suggestion ~ Enjoy the Celebration & Life of His Resurrection!
As much as I'll eat my fair share of chocolate eggs, and tap into my creative side to decorate a few.... let's not forget why Easter is worth the celebration.

As I read the first half of your post, I began to hum the melody of "Oh, How He Loves Us". And then, you named it. Awesome. You know, in some personal worship and prayer time recently, I tried to sing "Oh, How He Loves me" to personalize it. But I couldn't get the word "me" out. I was embarrassed by the depth of His love for me, in my sin and brokenness. But His love is so freely given and He woos us to freely receive. I'm working on that part!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful reminder of why today is, indeed, good. He is good. All the time.
